5 Fun Memorial Day Weekend Destinations
Summer will be here before you know it, and Memorial Day is considered to be the season’s unofficial kick off. Besides having a giant cookout at your house and feasting on BBQ, (which is never a bad idea), here are five more suggestions for making the most of the long weekend.
1. Watch a Memorial Day Parade.
On Memorial Day, take some time out to honor those in the military who died serving our country. Parades and ceremonies to commemorate the day are being held in many towns all across New England.
2. Beat a Path to Bristol, Rhode Island.
Popular travel site TripsToDiscover selected this charming Rhode Island town as the top Memorial Day destination in the Northeast area. Spend the weekend exploring its quaint downtown restaurants and shops, or go for a ride along the East Bay Bike Path. A Memorial Day parade and other special events to mark the day are also held here.
3. Head to Hampton Beach, New Hampshire.
If you’re in the mood for a lively beach atmosphere, head out to Hampton Beach for Memorial Day events, including a parade and a spectacular fireworks display. Don’t forget to bring a blanket! For more adventures in the Lakes region, try fishing, music festivals, and cruising Lake Winnipesaukee.
4. Make your way to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.
Spend a relaxing Memorial Day weekend sailing, touring lighthouses, or exploring the crafts and art work at the Opening Weekend Show supporting local artisans.
5. Kick Start Your Weekend in Kennebunkport, Maine.
Dock Square is the hub of activity in town, but there’s so much more to see and do here. After you’ve had fun strolling around the shops, take a scenic cruise, go whale watching, and have some fantastic fresh seafood.
Whatever you decide to do for Memorial Day weekend, enjoy getting together with family and friends for some beginning-of-summer fun!
